The author of the brochure "The Udekh Forest People" had the opportunity to meet the natives, who call themselves Ude (he), at a time when the country had not yet been colonized. These natives inhabit the forests along the right tributaries of the Ussuri River and on the coast of the Sea of Japan across the watershed. In the south, they were greatly influenced by Russians and Chinese, but in the central part of the Sikhote-Alin mountain region, which was difficult to penetrate, the Udekh long preserved their customs and mores.
