π PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
VMware vCenter Server 8 Standard is the centralized management platform for VMware vSphere environments. It lets you manage ESXi hosts and virtual machines from one place, organize clusters, control access with roles/permissions, and handle core administration tasks through the vSphere Client.
β MAIN FEATURES (HIGHLIGHTS):
β
Centralized vSphere Management:
β’ Manage your ESXi hosts + VMs from a single vCenter instance
β’ Organize inventory (datacenters, clusters, resource pools, folders) and streamline daily administration
β
Access Control (Roles & Permissions):
β’ Granular role-based access control (RBAC) to limit who can do what inside vSphere (roles/permissions model is used widely across vCenter operations).
β
vCenter High Availability (vCenter HA):
β’ Protects the vCenter Server Appliance against host/hardware failures with an active-passive architecture (reduces downtime)
β’ Note: vCenter HA is not a disaster recovery product.
β
Built-In Backup & Restore (VCSA):
β’ vCenter Server 8.x supports file-based and image-based backup approaches
β’ Recommended native backup/restore is through the VAMI interface (appliance management).
