The galaxy is expanding. The fourth addition to Distant Worlds 2 adds two new game factions: the naive and energetic Atuuk and the mysterious Vekkarus. The Atuks are the youngest in the galaxy and only recently discovered FTL travel before a Cataclysm stopped their exploration of the stars. They are very sociable and strive to become part of the galactic community in order to prove that they too are capable of achieving greatness. Atuks set high goals for themselves, although they often overestimate their abilities to achieve them. They more than compensate for their small stature and featureless intelligence with high population growth and the ability to focus their entire society on one single goal — their Great Direction. When Atuks have a goal, they are able to achieve almost anything by following one of the seven Great Directions... even if they are often too quickly distracted by another great goal. The Atuuk abandon the usual procedure of changing the ruler and instead choose a Great Leader, Atuuk, who will lead them in a Great Direction. Periodically, as the Atuuk change their Great Directions to achieve new goals, a new Great Leader may appear who better embodies the interests of the Atuuk and, as a result, becomes the new leader of the Atuuk. While preparing for the inevitable change of leader, others Atuuki shows Great Potential and is preparing to become one of the possible Great Leaders. Unique Features: Unique mechanics related to the Great Direction of Atuuk – the cyclical change of focus of the Atuuk society, which significantly improves their capabilities in a particular area of the empire, ranging from improved research to a significant increase in combat power and more, as well as providing more and more victorious goals to prove their greatness to the galaxy. From time to time, Atuuk will need to choose a new Great Leader from his community, marked by Great Potential, to lead them in a Great Direction. Some Atuks may have doubts about the direction they have chosen (the "Doubts about the correctness of the direction" function), although this is a temporary phenomenon. The Atuuki are a cheerful faction that successfully operates in the galactic diplomatic arena, although they are naive, gullible and rather narrow—minded, which means that they do not succeed in any particular field unless they follow one of their special Great Directions. The Atuuk´s construction standards don´t quite match those of other players in the galaxy, so their ships will encounter unexpected disruptions while traveling through the galaxy.
