It´s the summer of 1978, and Casey Beaumaris is doing everything to make these holidays the most fun and memorable. And then mom asks her to help on the weekend at the flying hospital where she works.
Casey prefers books to people, but agrees, secretly planning to write an article about her visit to the hospital in the school newspaper.
With his trusty notebook, Casey arrives on board the flying ship. The staff is overworked, preparing for the visit of an important official, while the patients are trying to cope with the loss of loved ones and other injuries.
In the midst of these interconnected and intertwined events, Casey spends time with patients, learns their stories and, as they develop, finds out how she can help.
