Theodoric von Akenburg, a former crusader knight, is tired of the brutalities of war, but the events of the recent past once again force him to take up the sword. Fifteen years ago, Theodoric and his fighting brother Ulrich von Grevel accidentally came across a fragment of the Aaron´s rod, an ancient artifact too powerful for ordinary mortals. Now the young monk Malcolm has come to inform Theodoric that Ulrich has set himself the idea of finding the rest of the relic, and this will bring evil and incalculable suffering into the world.
Theodoric decides to get ahead of Ulrich and collect the missing pieces. He has a long journey ahead of him across Europe and the Middle East. Other warriors will join his banner, from the elderly Teutonic veteran Reinhard von Kempten to the ambitious young mercenary Grimhilda Eidottir and her Raven squad. Each of them will have their own reasons for joining you, but little by little, the brotherly bonds between you will strengthen so much that any obstacles and trials will be on your shoulders.
