Description:
The general-purpose GP38-2 road switch joins the Norfolk Southern Train Simulator fleet. As a successor to the previous GP38, over 2,000 GP38-2 models were built by General Motors from 1972 to 1986. Most of the models were put into service on U.S. railroads, although some were exported to Canada, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Their modest 2,000 horsepower from a 16-cylinder engine allowed them to be classified as road switches, but they were quite capable of carrying light loads across the U.S. railroad network. Many of them remain in operation to this day, more than 40 years after entering service. Most GP38-2 locomotives were built with a low hood, although some were made with a high hood, as depicted in the EMD GP38-2 for Train Simulator, which is presented in black and racing colors by Norfolk Southern. Low gondola freight wagons, NS containers and platforms are also included. The locomotive is also compatible with Quick Drive, giving you the ability to drive the GP38-2 High Hood Norfolk Southern on any route that supports Quick Drive for Train Simulator, such as those available through Steam. Scenarios specifically designed for the Norfolk Southern Coal Region route are also included (available separately and required to play these scenarios).
