Description:
One of the busiest passenger routes in the UK capital has been beautifully recreated for Train Simulator in this new addition to the route. The North London Line stretches for about 17 miles between Richmond and Stratford and is today part of the London Overground network. This line is an important route for passengers with trains every 15 minutes, as well as a key corridor for freight transport connecting the inner suburbs north of London. Despite the short length of the line, the route consists almost entirely of dense intercity rail, and trains spend more than an hour traversing the route, stopping at all 23 stations. The line has been under construction for 25 years in five connecting sections. The first part of the line was opened as the Eastern Counties and Thames Railway in 1846 between Stratford and North Woolwich, and the last part opened in 1869 between South Acton and Richmond by the London & South Western Railway. In the 1980s, closures began along the entire line, the most notable of which was the closure of Broad Street Station, once a major terminal for the City of London, which became a declining station with very few passengers. Other significant closures on the line included the connection between Tottenham Hale and Stratford, as well as the more recent closure of the section between Stratford and North Woolwich in 2006. Where this line once stood, the Doxlands Light Railway is now in use and it will also become part of the Crossrail branch line to Abbey Wood in 2018. The line is mainly electrified using a 25 kV AC contact network between Stratford and Acton Central, which allowed the use of Class 313 two-volt trains on the line and also opened it up to electric freight locomotives. The section between Acton Central and Richmond is powered by a third rail, and there is also a fourth rail between Gunnersbury and Richmond, as London Overground and the District Line use this section of the network. Today, the line operates Class 378/2 "Capitalstars" trains forming London Overground services, D78 trains for District Line services between Richmond and Gunnersbury, as well as Class 66, 70, 90 and 92 locomotives that carry freight. The North London Line for Train Simulator recreates the 17-mile route as it operates today, between Richmond in southwest London and Stratford in northeast, with a curved road in a rough semicircle to avoid central London. The route includes standard British LED signalling throughout the route and state-of-the-art TfL 378 "Capitalstar" class electric trains.
