Description:
One of England´s most important mainline railways is now available in Train Simulator, connecting the UK capital with suburbs in Bedfordshire. The Midland Main Line was built in stages from the 1830s to the 1870s and originally consisted of three railway lines that converged at Tri Junction station in Derby, later becoming part of the Midland Railway. However, it was not until 1868 that the Midland Railway gained a direct connection to the British capital when the line from Bedford to St Pancras via Luton was opened. The last section, which is considered the modern Midland Main Line, was a relatively short bypass around Sheffield, which opened in 1870. Today, the Midland Main Line connects London with cities and towns in the heart of England, including Luton, Bedford, Kettering, Leicester, Derby and Chesterfield. Since the closure of the rival Great Central Main Line in the 1960s, it has remained the only direct mainline rail link between the capital and the East Midlands. This route handles a significant number of long-distance and local passenger services, including express trains operated by East Midlands Trains, as well as a large volume of freight services, including intermodal and stone aggregate trains. The Midland Trunk Line: London-Bedford route for Train Simulator covers 55 miles (88 km) of the Thameslink section from London St Pancras to Bedford via Luton - better known as the "BedPan" line – in its modern form. The route features the impressive London St Pancras Station and freight terminals at the Cricklewood Freight Facility, Radlett Stone Terminal, Elstow Aggregates Terminal at Bedford St John´s and the cement factory on the outskirts of London St Pancras. Also included are a Class 319 electric train from First Capital Connect and a Class 66 diesel locomotive from EWS, as well as PGA stone wagons, PCA bulk wagons, and FSA/FTA container wagons.
