V-Ray is a modern system for image visualization with a wide range of functions, used by many studios around the world. The V-Ray rendering program is based on the Monte Carlo method (Quasi Monte Carlo - QMC and its further proprietary modification - DMC), which allows achieving an optimal ratio of image quality to rendering speed using advanced computational methods. V-Ray has its own light sources, a sun-sky system for realistic lighting with natural light, and a physical camera with parameters similar to real photo and video cameras.
V-Ray provides users with a technology for constructing images of three-dimensional models based on the method of reverse ray tracing (ray tracing), calculates the illumination and color of an arbitrary point of a 3D scene using four components (direct illumination, specular refractions and reflections, secondary diffuse reflections and caustic effects of the image - for example, glare), and also provides the ability to choose various algorithms for calculating the primary and secondary reflection of global illumination (Global Illumination):
Light Cache
Photon Map (photon map)
Irradiance Map
Brute Force (QMC)
V-Ray works as a plug-in for Autodesk 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, SketchUp, Rhino, TrueSpace7.5, Autodesk Maya, and also as a separate module. Processed images can be converted to OpenEXR format and imported into the desired program.
V-Ray´s main application areas are:
