In the Bainbridge mass spectrometer (Fig. 28.13), the distance between the exit from the velocity filter (selector) and the entrance slit of the recording device is fixed and equal to l = 400 mm. The magnetic field induction in both parts of the device is the same and equal to 5.00·10-2 T. With a smooth change in the electric field in the velocity filter, peaks of the anode current in the receiver are observed at voltages of 1.20 x 104 V/m and 1.6 x 104 V/m.
